Is my temperature normal for X2 3800+ o/c @2.4GHz?

Hi,

My CPU temperature idles at 45oC and loads at 52oC (using 2 instances of Prime95) or 55oC (using S&M). It also says my motherboard temperature (using a passive heatpipe solution) is around 49oC. I am wondering if these temperatures are normal for my system configuration listed below:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ o/c to 2.4GHz @ 1.45V
Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro
ASUS A8N32-SLi Motherboard
2GB OCZ EL Platinum RAM
2X eVGA 7800GT o/c 470/1100 in SLi

Thanks.

I would have to say those temps are off. what are u using to view the temps? And after looking at your specs again, You have SLI's 7800GT's in there, and the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro, is that one big mofo of a HSF. My first guess is what are your case temps like and how much air flow in that case?

I think that sounds regular for regular cooling, but with custom cooling, it should be better than that.

I forgot to mention that these temps are with the case open using a very cheap case with 1 fan. Would these temperatures drop signficantly if I got a bigger case with more fans even if I closed the case? Thanks.

Oh yes...and I am using the ASUS PC Probe II program to monitor the temperatures.

How much room in that cheap case? it there alot of room between the SLI cards and the CPU HSF? if u take out one of the the SLI cards, and run single card do u notice if the temps are the same?

There are two PCI slots between the SLI cards, one of which is filled with a TV tuner card. I'm just wondering how people can get in the 30s for CPU idle temperature using the exact same CPU HSF as I am.

Airflow, friend .... I'm idling with my opty 165 @ 34C. I'm using a mid priced HSF and arctic silver .... and 3 case fans. If your case isn't moving air through it, the temperatures will rise .... regardless of your HSF.

The A8N32-SLI uses a heat pipe for cooling instead of a motherboard fan. I wonder if between that heat pipe and the Cooling Freezer 64's heat pipe/fan system, if there is enough air flow inside the case? If I understand correctly, the CPU *fan* is supposed to help dissipate some of the heat from the A8N32-SLI's motherboard heat exchanger. ASUS has an optional motherboard fan for the A8N32-SLI for those who aren't using a CPU fan.

move some air throught the case... im running my 1.8 Winchester at 2.3 right now and its idleing at 33*... just using some Thermax Compound and a Gigabyte 3dRocket... oh and i have it in a P180 :)
