Is my SSD warranty really void because I opened it?

Well I did something really dumb so please don't come here to scold me.

I bought a new SSD and well just out of curiosity I opened up a brand new SSD before installing it just to have a look. Now I'm done and satisfied my curiosity and I close everything back up and see a nice "Remove or breaking labels or screw voids your warranty".

Well shit... I feel like an idiot but can they really tell? I mean I work on computers for a living so I am pretty damn cautious when working on delicate things. How would a person tell if I actually opened this thing up? Screw torque? Just curious if anyone had any experience with this. Also usually if a manufacturer doesn't want you going into something they put a nice little sticker over a screw (which was not the case). It's not like it doesn't work everything is perfect but I'm just worried about the long run...

It's an Intel drive BTW.

Usually you have to remove a sticker to get at a screw that is essential to remove to open it. If that sticker's gone (or not properly adhered), they can tell. Did you have to remove any stickers, or break any of them? If not, I doubt they can tell.

I don't really get Intel's stance on this. Firstly, the drive is a 7mm high chassis with a 2.5mm spacer screwed on. Yet they don't provide any smaller screws for you to remove the spacer and make it purely 7mm. So if they don't want you to remove the screws, make it a 9.5mm high chassis? And then theres the label saying dont remove the screws.

Theres no tamper system or anything to detect the drive has been opened so I wouldn't worry about it.

Samsung have a much better approach by making a 7mm high chassis and providing a 2.5mm plastic spacer with adhesive back.

1. It's intel so it isn't likely to break
2. There's no sticker on it, anyway, so they won't even know that you did it

Yeah part of the reason I was surprised by the "warranty void if screws removed" sticker was the plastic spacer.

Thanks for all the feedback I feel a bit more at ease. I too doubt it's going to break but voiding a 5 year warranty just doesn't make me feel all that great.
