Ok, I was using my computer then all of a sudden I heard some staticky noises coming out of my speakers...I though no big deal...then, I launched AOL IM and there was no sound. So I tried an MP3, and there was no sound.

So, I restarted my computer, and tried playing am MP3. This time it didn't even play because it said I had no hardware sound device! So, I check the device manager and sure enough there's a yellow exclamation mark next to the SantaCruz device. So I click on that and it says "This device cannot start. (Code 10)"

So then I uninstalled the card, and rebooted. The add new hardware wizard came up and I had it search for drivers. It found the SantaCruz drivers, but during installation it gave an error, saying "This device cannot start. (Code 10)". Then I decided to use the Windows XP system restore to restore my system to yesterday's checkpoint. Still no sound. So then I uninstalled the drivers, and uninstalled the card from the device manager, and rebooted. This time I got it to say unkown PCI multimedia device, then I installed the SantaCruz drivers and during installation, same error! So, then I uninstalled the drivers, the card, and shut down completely. I took out the sound card and put it back in (reseated it). Booted up, found unkown PCI multimedia device, installed the SantaCruz drivers again, and again, same error.

Ok, so what happened here? Is my sound card F'd or is something else wrong? It was working fine earlier today, and I changed absolutely nothing before this all happened.

I'm running aside from the stupid Turtle Beach SantaCruz:

Intel Pentium 4 1.5GHz
ASUS P4B266-C i845D motherboard
ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 7500
512MB PC2100 CL2 Mushkin DDR SDRAM
Netgear FA311 PCI NIC

everything's at stock speeds, no overclocking here.

Please help!!!

i guess the final test would be to plug the sound card into another machine and test...
