Is my Sony monitor going to die?

My sony monitor has been deteriorating in quality for months, by the time i realized it the warrenty was already up. Now it has gotten so bad that when i have no background, and it is set to all black, i can see 10 almost horizontal lines across the screen. This is not related to the 3 stabalizer lines that you see on all sony monitors. I am wondering if this is just gonna keep getting worse. It started by the brightness going, i had to lower the brightness to look "normal" every 2 months, eventually it wouldnt go any lower, now it is starting to affect the quality of the images. Need to replace the monitor, do they all die like this eventually? By the way is there a better monitor out now ? I have a sony Multiscan E400. It is a 19 inch monitor. I want a sony tube, 19 inch but the original monitor i wanted was a .22 grill, but sony discontinued it and there was at the time no comparable 19 inch to the 21 inch F520.

Any suggestions one which 19 inch monitor has the best picture? I loved this monitor until it started to die.

Thanks,

Lou

The sony g520 is great

Might want to take a look at some of the recent LCD's they've been comming down in price, but for CRT's I generally go for viewsonics for overall quality/price.

I dont need a 21 inch monitor, but a 19 inch that compares to the F520 would be nice, as far as I know, the 5 refers to a 21 inch. While anything with a 4 is a 19.

Normally that loss of brightness occurs very slowly with age... I've heard of TVs doing that like your case, and they can be adjusted, but it's very costly (at least for the big guys, never heard of this happening on smaller TVs).

As for lifespan, I got my 21" compaq p110 in late 1997 I think (or 98) and it still looks and runs great. The Sony G530 is a real nice screen, for my uses CRT is much better then LCD as fixed resolution doesn't work so well for me personally, I switch all over the place depending on what I'm doing.

The top of the line Iiyama 19" is great. Vision Master Pro454.

My friend is ordering that one and I have the Vision Master Pro450 back a few years but DAM is it ever a quality monitor. Best I have had.

Sony E200 17" is also great, apart from the top end resolution and the Hz it can run it at. Saying that 1280x1024 at 75Hz I think, I didn't notice any flickering.

But now that I am on a 23" Sony Widescreen lcd I don't care 😀
