Is my shadow mask monitor supposed to be fuzzy?

I just got my new shadow mask yesterday and I can see that when I'm viewing a page that has some white, there is some fuzzy stuff. It is kind of annoying. Is this normal?

Doesnt sound normal, did you get any display setup software with your video card? like 3deep, it can help you fine tune your display.

I compared it to my Trinitron tube and my shadow mask monitor looks a little bit bad. The monitor did not come with any software.

It could be your video card. Do you have an nVidia board by any chance?

nVidia's cards aren't known for their quality... :)

I would check for moire (is there a moire reduction setting?), and EMI. Generally shadow masks are said to be a little bit sharper (hence better text) but less colour-saturated.

who makes it? is it a decent monitor? are you using a high enough refresh rate? (on my viewsonic the text is crisper at higher resolutions)

It's moire diffraction interference, which isn't fuzziness but actually a sympton of excessive sharpness, and it can occur with both shadow mask and Trinitron picture tubes. The finer the dot pitch and lower the bandwidth (of both the monitor and the video scan), the less likely that moire will appear.
