Is my SAS Controller and SCSI HD configured properly?

I just built a new system using the LSI Megaraid 8344ELP SCSI controller and Seagate 300GB 15K.5. The controller is plugged into my ASUS M2N32-SLI PCIE x4 slot.

I ran some benchmark using HDTach and I got average read/write speed of 120MB/s. I am wondering if the controller is configured properly and that it is using the onboard 128MB of cache.

During the bios setup, i chose "cached" mode on the selection. But shouldn't the benchmark be much higher with the onboard cache enabled?

Cache will not affect benchmarks such as HD Tach. Use ATTO with a block size of 32MB which fits inside the cache. While this runs the drive activity lights will be off indicating that the data (R/W) is going from and to the cache and not the drive.

Also check the drive properties in device manager and make sure write cache is enabled. This will enable the write back cache which helps but make sure your system has a UPS! A power failure with write back enabled means you will lose any uncommitted data and if that's something crucial to the OS you may be running a repair install.
