I just put in a new stick of memory, the info from MBM is:

Manufacturer - Name :Corsair
Manufacturer - Location :1 ($01)
Manufacturer - Part Number :CM654S256-150C2

all correct

when i had my last piece of ram in my machine (generic pc100)
the manufacturer name, location and part number were all something to the effect of

"FFF%^^$#FF"

does this mean that stick of pc100 ram is bad? my system has been noticably more stable with the corsair memory installed. sys info: celeron 400, abit BE6-II, win2k. thanks.

Not necessarily. Most of the time the ram information is read of the SPD of the memory. SPD is a little chip on the RAM that holds the ram information. It can be programmed to say whatever it wants. The only problem I see with messed up SPD readings is if your motherboard autodetects the RAM speed. It might get stuck deciding between CL3 or CL2.
