I just put together my new computer - it's a Pentium 4 3.4 ghz, 512 mb ram, Ati radeon x800xt, 200 gb hard drive and a 16x cd-rw burner. My power supply is a 380 watt Antec power supply. My problem is that when I try to install Warcraft 3(a 4-cd game), it will never finish. The cd-rom drive starts sounding like it's starting up and turning off rapidly and then it will never finish installing. The cd's aren't scratched at all, and it stops installing when using different cds. So do you guys think my cd-rom drive is messed up or that I am not getting enough power to it? I was told a 380 watt antec would be fine for my system, and i really hope it is.

thanks,

jason

What burner is that?? 16X cdrw drives are ancient... Post up the make and model of the burner... If it's a sony drive, junk it and get either a Lite-on or Plextor... Either of those brands are 10000x better than the crap-ass drives sony makes for computers.

So how old is the burner??? I'd suggest getting a new burner or combo drive and try that. You should be able to get a Lite-on drive for about, or under, $50 these days. I really don't think the issue is the power supply, since I've run more than what you're listing for hardware on that size PSU before...

I would think the psu is fine and the cdrw more likely the bad guy. Do you have acces to another cd drive to check it out?

Get a $30 Lite-On 52x burner anyway, they are better at buring CD's then the Lite-On DVD burners. Then you can have two optical drives as well...
