Is my PSU enough?

I'm currently running an Antec Truepower 2.0 550w for my rig below (see sig). It's been running fine for the past two and a half years too.

Anyways, I'm about to add another hard drive and upgrade my GPU to an 8800GTS (or one of the new cards when they come out). Will my PSU be enough to support both of these upgrades?

Thanks,
Wade

Technically the PSU should have enough power. However, the original TruePower and the TruePower 2 (TP2) units were known to have problems with capacitors that weaken over time. You may want to shine a flashlight through the fan to see if any of the capacitors have visible bulges or leaks.

Google search turns up a couple mentions fo TP2. I know the problem was fairly prevalent early on, but don't know for sure if the TP2 suffered from this.

Zap, yes the TP2 did suffer, I had a TP2 550W and it blew a cap in 9 months :frown:
Sent it back to newegg, they gave me a refund, and I bought a Corsair HX620 and haven't looked back.

Thanks guys, I'll take a look to see if any caps have leaked.

I guess I've been lucky so far. I purchased mine around June of 05.

I would get a new Corsair...my SmartPower 2.0 500W got dead after about 9 months. Been on the Corsair HX520 for a year and half and could not be happier.
