About a month and a half ago I had my Antec SmartPower 500 go out, taking the mobo and 2 HDs with it. While sending the PSU in for a RMA, I found out the SP500 was no longer being made and Antec would give me an EarthWatts asa replacement, also 500 watts.
Well now Im getting these prolonged periods of lag/drag, both online and offline. It happens when I play both Call of Duty 4 and SimCity 4 and continues even once I've exited the programs. I've tried updating the drivers on the 7800gt but that hasn't solved it. The other hardware I have connected is one HD, a 1024 stick of RAM, a card reader, usb mouse and (usually) a 1 gig ipod shuffle.
I was checking temps of Everest and both the cpu and video card temps seem normal so I think that only leaves the power supply as the culprit. Would not getting enough juice from the psu cause this kind of slowdown?
