Is my PSU Adequate?

Hello,

I've decided to upgrade my system to the following:
CPU: E6600
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-965P-DS3
RAM: G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
GPU: BFG Tech GeForce 7950GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16

I have a 500W Fortron BlueStorm PSU that I have had for like 1.5years. I plan to OC my new system, some friends tell me my PSU won't handle it. What do you guys think?

Yep, definitely enough.

I am running even more stuff than that just fine on an ancient TruePower 430. 😉

Ah...along the same lines, do you think a 500W Ultra V-series (I know it's crap but it was $7 after rebate) power a similar system? I don't really want to drop $100 on a high end PSU. I don't mean to threadjack but my question is pretty much the same.

CPU: e6600
Motherboard: Gigabyte DS-3 or P5B Deluxe
RAM: (2 x 1GB) of DDR2 800
GPU: Sapphire x1950 xt
Extra stuff: 74GB raptor and 320GB barracuda, dvd/cd burner, possibly a tv tuner.

What do you think? Is there any risk to running this system with my power supply?

@ newfuture, if you already have it, no harm in trying it out. Just monitor the voltages at idle (and while under load, like running 3DMark06 or something like that) and see if they fluctuate too much. Just because it is cheap, doesn't mean it will cause your computer to implode on powering up. In my experience, a bad PSU will display some signs before completely giving out. Random reboots, freezes etc.

Ok I'll try it out when I get everything put together. I'm in no hurry so if it doesn't work I can just order a different one later. Thanks!

500W - check
Fortron - check

Yes, you are good 🙂

newfuture - if all is well, congratulations, you have saved a bundle. But your system is a standing invitation to the gremlins...

Actually the BlueStorm's rating is peak rather than continuous. It's continuous power rating is only 400+, but it's still a good 400+W PSU, and 400+W should be enough for you.
