did i kill my prescott?


my 3Ghz prescott chip doesnt "beep" in the mobo of my P4C800-E

I dont have my northwood cpu anymore as it was sold.

I bought the prescott without updating the bios on the mobo first.

How can I get this cpu to boot so I can upgrade the bios if i need to?

Any suggestions?

or did i kill my prescott?

It's my understanding that the BIOS issue only affects XP SP2 with a Prescott installed. The system will fire up and then lock up. There area a number of other things that could happen to kill your system that do not directly involve the CPU.

Is the power supply good? Do you have it hooked up properly? Is the memory up to snuff and is it installed correctly?

If it's the CPU, did you maybe zap it?

Make sure to check out those things and give maybe a bit more in the way of details so people can help you out.

It's possible the mobo's BIOS does not support that CPU... chances are it's fine... never see a CPU die unless it's been overclocked heavily for years, OR the heatsink fan stops working and it overheats.

Check the Asus site and see if the BIOS supports your CPU... if it doesn't, acquire a Northwood fo flash your BIOS if needed and re-install the Prescott after the BIOS flash.

Where did you buy your motherboard?Locally or online?
If local:Go to the shop and see if they can run a POST on it and also flash upgrade your bios.
If onlineepends on where,but you may be able to send it in for a bios flash upgrade.
If you know someone with a Northwood CPU,borrow it just to get your bios flashed.

I tried to look up any bios revisions on ASUS' website and as usual their piece of sh*t website is not functioning or even unreachable.I'm glad I don't have anything ASUS anymore.
