Is my performance lower than it should be?

I've just started playing the retail version of Crysis and I'm just past the spot where the demo ends. I'm playing on DX9 with high settings expect for shadows/post-processing which I have at medium, at 1680x1050 resolution, and my performance is pretty bad at times. Most of the time my FPS is aroudn 20-25FPS, or ocassionally 30~, but in really intense scenes and combat it'll often dip down to 15-20FPS. I know Crysis is a real resource-hog, but I'm wondering if I'm getting lower performance than normal for my setup:

AMD X2 3600+ @ 2.8GHz
2GB DDR2 @ 800MHz 5-5-5-15
eVGA 8800GTS 640MB @ 612/1950
Windows Vista 32-Bit

With the performance I'm getting now, I'm probably just going to wait until I get a faster card to actually play Crysis. The game really isn't enjoyable at this speed, and I don't want to lower my settings any further.

Thanks.

I used pretty much the same settings, but got a bit higher framerates than that ... of course I do have the GTX and a dual core. I just finished the game, and near the end I was dipping into the teens. If I set my rez lower than 1680x1050 it upped things a whole lot, but I honestly couldn't notice the difference between 30-40 and 60-70. Try it with medium settings to see how it looks instead of being steadfastly against lowering settings. Still a great game.
