Is My New T-Bird Running Too Hot?

I just set up my new 800MHZ T-Bird on a MSI K7T PRO2-A. Under MSI PC Alert 3 it says my CPU temp is 50C! I'm using Arctic Silver & FOP32-1. The heatsink doesn't feel warm it's cold. Should I be worried?

If the heatsink is not touching the die and not transfering the heat to the heatsink efficiently I'd be worried.

Check if the thermal grease is on the heatsink when you take it off, if it isn't then it is not touching.

I forgot to metion that those temps are at full load. And yes I already did that paruhd0x, and the compound was on both the CPU and HS/F.

Its a tad warm. Try reinstalling the heatsink, taking extra care to ensure flat mounting.

Also, only apply grease to the cpu core.

I reinstalled the HS/F and applied some more AS and the temps now read 32C @ full load. Are these temps good?

What's your ambient temp?

I think its safe to assume that the MSI K7t Pro2a is likewise a malfed-up temp reading mb.

err, should have asked about ambient case temp.

but assuming a case temp of 75F(~24C), your chip is running pretty darn low. In other owrds, the mb is under-reading the core temp.

Wow, your chassis temp is a bit warm. Also, your mb is severely misreading the cpu temp(by about 10-15C, depending on your heatsink).

Davegod75,

Why are you posting clearly incorrect temps? Even with a hedgehog, your ambient CASE temp needs to be 12C in order for that temp to be remotely correct.
