I just installed a XFX 7800 GT bought brand new; it is replacing a 6200. Hardware installed without problems. Computer booted up with perfect image. Windows XP booted up and I installed nvidias 81.95, which went well. PC booted up again with no problems. I then went to display properties and change resolution to 1024x768 and refresh to 70hz; no problems here. To this point my PC was on for about 5 minutes. Every fan is running. I then proceed to check other settings and while I was LOOKING at the core temperature (which was 54) my screen went blank and the PC froze. I reseted and had to uninstall the drivers in safety mode but now the image is always corrupted, even outside XP (BIOS, DOS....).
I have a screen capture here:

I installed my old 6200 and everything is working. Any ideas? I tried unpluggin EVERY device from the PSU but the MOBO and nothing changed.

P4 LGA775 3.4 (no OC), 1 GB DDR2 (no OC), Seagate 120 SATA HD, Intel 915PBL Mobo with latest BIOS, 450 PSU

If that's the case, it seems like your graphics card may be broken... Although it's strange that it only happened after 5 min... Is the cooler seated well? Because 54°C idle is a lot...

BTW: Your image gives an error...

Yes. Mine came with a 4 pin Molex instead of PCI Express Connector. Just for the fun of it I unplugged everything from the PSU (HD, DVD, floppy) but the supply to the MOBO and the 7800GT. Nothing changed. But one thing is curious: I left it in the box overnight but in the morning I decided to give it another try. Exactly same thing happend. First it was okay but then it got corrupted again. I would like to underclock it but I think that it might void the warranty.

Yep, that's some heavy checkerboarding... RMA will be your only way out of this unfortunately... Most certainly a heat problem IMO, but it's not worth buying an aftermarket cooler for, if you can RMA it...
