IS my MX over heating?

I'm getting some strange artifacts running 2d on my geforce2 mx. Of course, the manufacturer is cheap, like all the others, and my GPU doesn't have an actual fan on it. These problems didn't show up in the winter, but now that it's warm, these problems are showing up. Does heat cause 2d artifacts? I would think it would just freeze up...

Running any component out of specification can produce un-desired operation in any aspect.

Generally speaking 3D will show errors first as it is much more complex in terms of processing so any limitations will appear there first. You could always put a fan on the heatsink, although officially it isn't needed. If it works ok with a fan then it is definitely heat related.

Another option may be to keep the overall system case temperature down. It may be that this is also higher than normal.

I've had the same problem to, but onöly when the card is being overclocked. At 200/200 something the card shows abnormalties in 2d. Now i guess that's not so strange. But if your car ins't overclocked i'd either return the card or consider if the case is too warm. Sounds strange to me.

Anyway i've run my Asus v7100 gf2mx at 190/190 with only a heatsink and it's stable. Getting a fan and some memory heatsinks soon just to se what i an do with it.
