Anyone here ever bought a dead mobo? I think it just happened to me. I plugged in the processor, vid card, and various wires (power, speaker, power switch, etc). When I turn on the power, the fans spin up and that is IT. Nothing else happens.

I haven't done anything to damage the motherboard or processor. I verified that everything else appears to work fine (at first I thought it was the RAM). So could I have gotten a dead motherboard? I have never heard of that happening.

The board in question is an Abit BX133 w/ P3-800EB. I am not being an idiot and missing switches on this board that need to be set, am I? The only ones I am aware of are the FSB/Multiplier DIPs that I have set to OFF for softmenu to work.

If you've got a decent ATX case, the fans come on for 2 seconds when the power comes on, than go off. You have to than hit the power switch (front of case type) to power up the system. Usually the fans won't come on if the mobo is DOA.

Well, I am an idiot. I had the PS switched to 230 Volts.

I am surprised that the fan on the processor spun up at all. I guess it was running at a lower voltage (6-8) instead of 12.

Well, at least I don't have to RMA the thing now. Quite a relief.
