Here is the lowdown.

Asrock z77 Pro4-M with i5 3570k OC @ 4.5GHZ on 1.2V with 2400mhz ram. This setup has been running like this for 4 years with no issues. Until recently I was doing smartshow 3D and it turn it all the way up to 4.5GHZ full time. NO other video card is used. Am using the builtin GPU on the 3570k. The GPU I believe is HD4000 and it was not OC and has never been OC.

Temp is max @ 72 on one core the rest is hovering around 65-68 max loaded

One day on restart after smartshow 3d freeze on a 2gb slideshow show export the computer beep 5 times. 5 Quick beeps and no post on screen. did some research and everyone seems to point the finger at CPU. So I tore down everything and reassemble her and still 5 beeps. Went to basics took everything out xcept ram, cpu and still 5 beeps.

At this point I thought CPU is dead, so I took a i5 2320 off my other computer which is working and slap her in and same thing 5 beeps. So I then swap my 3570k to the other computer(gigabyte board) and it boots just fine. This computer also does not used an external video card, it is using the built in gpu from the cpu. This led me to believe the 3570k is fine.

Then I used a spare video card and put it in the asrock along with 3570k and 2320 and they both boot. I go to options to try to select to boot from built in video and it's not available, only option is PCI express. Before I remember seeing the option in there to select the option to boot from built in video, so this is no longer available. I also notice my ram is running 1600mhz instead of 2400mhz. I do have 2400mhz ram and it was running 2400mhz before the crash. Tried to change ram but option max out at 1600mhz only. Finally to top it off max multiplier is 38. If I put in 45 or 40 or anything above 38 it changes it to 38, but upon restart it doesn't stick. she always come back 3400mhz but bios select is still on 38. BTW going down on multiplier to like 20 doesn't stick either, she always run at stock 3400mhz but again will show 20x on multiplier.

So basically no built-in video and multiplier is trash and memory is at 1600 max. I remember smelling or thought I smell a little smoke or burning from the lowing right corner of the board when I was trying to restart her and I'm wondering if my bios is somehow fried, seeing as Asrock has replacement bios, could this be the case, my bios is fried? I do have the latest bios.

Time for new bios? Do you think it's the bios that is the problem or the actual board is bad?

Any help is appreciated.

you could try to do another bios and see if that helps at all.

But at this point i would also guess bad board.
