NEED HELP!! :frown:

My Viewsonic PT813 monitor just lost the blue color, all adjustments of red and green seems ok but when adjusting the blue there is no effect. Its not video card problem, cause I plugged my old 17 incher to the video card and everything returned to normal colors. I also tried wiggling the cables and still no effect. :(

Is this going to be the end of this monitor?? What can I do to "fix" it? Is it better to buy a new one than to have it fixed (costwise)?

Really need ur opinion......

Hmm I would unplug the cable and look more closely. Could be that it lost a couple of pins.

If you can replace the cable going to the computer from the monitor, then I would try that first. If your monitor is still under warranty, then RMA that badboy. If not, baseball bats are the most fun way to get rid of a broken monitor that's costing you money!

Yep, done that, all pins are still there.

No warranty, this monitor only cost me <$200, got it from the Egghead auction. How do you throw away a monitor?? I think monitors can't be thrown like garbge because of thier lead content.

sounds like a blown blue tube... live in a tall building with access to the roof? or have a 5lb sledge?

Its the Phosphors, and the mercury that makes monitors toxic. nonetheless, you can still smash them. FUNFUNFUN

Yes, it sounds like your monitor is going bad.

FWIW, the local recycling center only normally takes old computer stuff if it's working. Only on certain days (which they claim to advertise but I've never seen anything about them) do they take any old broken computer parts. Thus, when I wanted to get rid of a monitor, I just put it in a dumpster. ;)

Oh well, time for another monitor, the sad part is, i'm used to huge monitors now (I also use 21" at work) and anything thats 17" and below will really disappoint me.

don't wanna do that, this monitor is more than 70lbs, it would break my back climbing to the roof! :p
The sledge thing would be too messy too ;)
The dumpster would be the best way to go.....

To follow up to my previous post, I understand it's gotta suck having to get rid of such a nice monitor; my gateway ev700 (17 inch non-flat CRT) had exactly the same problem as your monitor, but I didn't mind getting rid of it, since it sucked anyway even when all of the electron guns worked right. My iiyama vision master 17 had a similar problem, but it turned out to be in the HD15-to-5xBNC cable, instead of the monitor; I've not got a new cable yet because they're expensive ($25 or so), the monitor is non-flat, and I have a new flat 19 inch CRT that works fine. :)
