Is my monitor dying?

I have a Gateway EV700 monitor that is 5-6 years old. When I built my last computer, on occasion and sometimes frequently the monitor would click to a black screen and then come back, but it would cause the computer to lock up. I thought this was a problem with the computer as opposed to the monitor so I tried to troubleshoot it. I was never able to figure it out. Recently I picked up a new computer (Compaq with AMD 3000) and I have noticed that the problem is continuing. However, the clicking off is much less frequent and generally it does not lock up the computer.

Is this the monitors way of telling me it is dying or is there something else that might be causing the problem. I will be buying a new monitor anyway as I want to use both computers. Should I be on the lookout for two monitors?

maby man i got a Sony Trinitron Multiscan17se2

i also see 2 thin lines on the monitor black ones all the way across maby you got them to look closer

Aleksander,

does your monitor do that with different video cards on different computers or has it been on just one computer or with one video card?

All triniton/diamondtron/etc have those lines.
Thats normal, some people just don't notice them.

Sounds like the monitor's going bad to me.
Guess you can get matching monitors now.
🙁
