Is my monitor dead? No power and has ticking sound

I'm assuming my son's 6 year old CRT has died....He's was having problems with it flickering and having "off" colors right after he tried to watch a DVD. I updated his video drivers and thought that solved the problem. Today it died while playing a game. There is no power light and it has a faint constant ticking noise (just like a clock). The sound seems like it is coming from the rear corner near the power cord. I pulled the cover and cleaned out all the dust using compressed air, made sure the power cord was firmly connected, and tried another outlet. There is no obvious damage. Still dead....Any thoughts on how to get it to work until Xmas?

You may need a new power supply for the CRT. You could probably take it repair shop and have them put it in for you, but the cost involved for the repair most likely will be larger.

The ticking sound you are hearing is coming from the power supply.
More than likely the HOT (HighVoltageTransistor) and assorted components
in its circuit have failed (either supplying to MUCH VOLTAGE or to LITTLE).

Six years is a reasonable amount of time for a monitor to last before fading.
Might be time to look for a NEWER model.
