ok well i just called antec tech support. i can rma my psu and my warranty lasts for 3 years. im not so sure if its my psu though. the tech said the psu has an emergency shut off feature so that when it detects something is up it will automatically shut off and unplugging it for a few seconds will restart the circuit, so i could turn on my pc. he also said that motherboards have this feature.

so now im wondering if its my mobo or my psu. i replaces all my parts from my original computer back in so now im using the same computer. i just experienced it again when my pc shut off. so i cant be sure if its the mobo or the psu. ill try testing the psu on my brothers computer later.

what do you guys think? mobo or psu, which seems more logical? should i just rma my psu and see if it fixes the problem?

As a first step open the case and disconnect every thing from the Motherboard and the power supply.

Leave the main Mobo PSU connection On, as well as the CPU power connection, the memory, and video card.

Try to Boot the bare computer into the BIOS.

Post back what happened.

umm, well a little more details might be helpful. There are multiple things that can cause a computer to shut off. Thats assuming thats your main issue, since you really didn't tell us much. Is it the computer in your sig that you are having trouble with? I had 2 450W smart powers die on me, so it's certainly a good possiblility. An overheating CPU can also cause the computer to shut off. Bad motherboard, or shorted motherboard as well.

my bad yes, my rig in my sig is what im using now. i have tested pretty much everything except for the mobo and psu. i took apart my whole computer and threw in a different psu, processor, video card, and mobo and it all worked fine. then a few days later i tried putting my psu (the smart power 450) into that rig. it worked fine, but i didnt really use it enough or test it to see if it was working properly, it could have been working fine, it it might have been about to shut off on me, im not sure. i was excited about seeing it working so i put together my old rig again (the one in my sig) and then about 2 hrs later it shut off on me. ive contacted antec about this anf they tell me its probably the mobo or the psu. i can rma the psu, but i dont know if i still have a warranty on my mobo. my rig is about 1.5 yrs old, maybe a little older now, and the mobo is an MSI K8N Neo4-F. not sure how long the warranty lasts on it.

let me know if you need some more info
