I got a used mobo today, its an Asus cubx. This is my first time trying to install a mobo.I put on a brand new cel766,128mb of pc133 ram that I am sure is good, and a geforce 256 that Im sure is good.I hooked up all the wiring(Im sure I did it right because I hooked this on back up that Im using and here I am).
When I go to power up the system all I get is black screen..I seen a green light on the mobo itself so I know it was getting power. All the fans were working. But I couldent power down the system with the power button ,I had to unplug it.
Can someone possibly give me some input please? :) thanx

Did you try holding down the power button for more than 4 seconds to see if it would power down? Can't think of anything else right now cause it's late...Sorry

Make sure everything's seated well(a friend of mine had a mem stick out of alignment just recently, same result). Clearing the BIOS first might help as well(some mobos won't boot w/ diff processor until the bios has been reset). Make sure your cpu fan is in the first header(this will keep some mobos from booting). Can't think of anything else at the moment.

Yes, hold the power button down for a few seconds. ATX mobos have a soft power off feature. As for the board itself, it can be a number of reasons. Some of them may be: 1) the mobo is grounding somewhere to the case, 2) The mem you have may not be compatible (ie ECC register pc133), 3)A loose card, 4) Bad Power supply, 5) wrong settings on the mobo, either bios, jumpers, or dip switches.

I'm getting tired too so that's all i can think of now also.

Clear the cmos is your best bet since you got it used. I doubt the previous owner had the exact same setup as you so clearing the cmos will set all the bios settings to default which will allow your computer to bootup.
