To make it short my pc is having this problem:
As I turn it on, It seem to start to boot my nothing shows on screen. So
- Tried first and conected the monitor to my laptop and it works just fine
- Bought a cheap Video Card and replaced my old AIW but nothing
- Took out the HD and checked it in other pc and it was working fine, no viruses either

Checked all power and comm conections ( unplugged and plugged them back again) including RAM, still nothing.

So i came to the conclusion that my Mobo fried, or perhaps is the RAM wich I could not replace??? Please help diagnose the problem, in the meantime I´m beginning to check out new mobo´s , anyhow I´d like to know what might have happened

Are you getting any beep codes when you try booting it? Usually when something is wrong with the motherboard and you don't get a post screen, it will give a series of beeps that you can match up to a code in the mobo manual. However, if it's actually booting and you're just not getting video, then that's not going to help you. You said you tried swapping vid cards. Have you tried clearing the bios via the jumper yet? Also, if it's the particular slot you were using for the video card that has fried, like the agp slot, then you'd need a pci vid card to prove that is the case.

1) I don´t get any beeps at all, however I beleive my particular set up doesn´t have a system speaker (The one bundled with the mobo or Case) I own a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum and a Tsunami Dream case.

2) How does the Bios jumper thing works?? That I haven´t tried.

3) It´s going to be next to imposible to find a PCI video card in this era, so probably won´t be able to check that.

Is it posible that this problem is due to RAM fried??? I will try tonight to get some RAM and swap it and try then . . .

Thanks.

A bad stick of memory could be the issue if it's just not posting. If you've got more than one stick in there, try removing the one then the other. Clearing the bios is really simple. There is a header on the board with three pins and little plastic jumper connecting two of them. You take the jumper off the one pair of pins and move it to the other pair and then swap it back. It's usually located right next to the battery and I think on the MSI boards has a turqiose jumper. You can see one in this pic here jsut below the battery, I'm not sure if this is your exact motherboard or not though.

Try running Memtest 86 to check to see if your RAM if ok. That's what sounds like the problem to me.

he obviously can't run memtest when his pc doesn't even post or get any video signal.

Check you Mobo's manual which will tell you how to reset the cmos jumper. If you have more than one stick of ram. Try each one by itself in each dimm slot. Maybe one bad memory stick or a bad or conflicting dimm slot.

Also did you just build this pc or has it been in operation for a while. Was the cpu install correctly. Maybe pull off the cpu and make sure there are no bent pins.

Sounds like it was an OEM bundled with a case so he probably doesn't have the manual for it. Chcek out www.msicomputer.com and look up your board to get the manual in a pdf file. I'd link directly to it, but their manuals are stored on their .tw domain and my company blocks that domain.

Thanks for all of your answers,

This computer I assembled all on my own, though that was 3 years ago so the manual may not be at hand, so I´ll try to download it later on.

memtest, out of the question for the reasons stated by wseyller.

AMCRambler , that is not the card but it´s quite similar,if I try the bios-jumper thing, shoul I:
1st) switch the jumper to the other pair AND turn on the pc see what happens and then
2nd) Turn it off switch back the jumper and turn it back on again??

Will try also the memory option, 1st with one stick then the other, and if possible I´ll try to get other stick elsewhere and try that one too by itself.

Will post results tonight when I get home. :Q

Well, Just today I could try the suggestions, and got my pc to boot successfully , tried the jumper thing, but don't know if that did the trick. Then tried using the two unused memory slot, with one stick and voila! then both, and everything went well. Is it possible than the first couple of slots (the ones being used) burned??

Thanks everyone for your help.
