Is my mobo dead/dying?

Ok. I've been having issues with my system for quite awhile. I've thought it to be several things which I've since ruled out. Basically, I started getting an error message when I would reboot my computer that said something like "a registry file had to be recovered from a backup. the recovery was successful"...or along those lines.

I thought it was a windows error, so I backed up my stuff and did a reformat/reinstall.
Shortly after getting windows installed, that error popped up again.

I tested memory with a couple different memory testers and got no errors. I swapped out the hard drive thinking maybe it was bad...still had problems. Swapped out the ide cable for the hard drive...still problems.

At some point through all this, my mouse stopped working out of the blue upon a restart. Luckily, it was a usb mouse that was using a ps/2 adapter and when I pulled the adapter off and plugged the mouse into a usb port, it was working fine again...so I think it was the ps/2 port that was funky.

Let's see....guess that's it. Can't think of a way to test any other hardware components.
Oh yeah, the onboard audio occasionally screws up as well, but that's usually a "windows sound kernel" or something issue when I check it out in the device manager.

What's weird is that I'm running a live cd linux os right now (since my attempt to reinstall windows yesterday failed...again) and it's working just fine (albeit slow since it's all running in system memory).

So there's my dilemma. Anyone got any clues? Ideas? Technology god I might be able to pray to to solve my problems!? 😛

hhmmmmm. Have you check your power supply? I would back up personal data and run hard disk diagnostic program from the disk manufacturer(boot to it) because the hard drive that you are replacing might be bad.

So, after you replaced the mouse adapter, you still have it happen ?
If a registry has to be pull from a restore then:
- memory is corrupted there, or
- your anti-virus, spyware clean it automaticaly (did you set the option to delete the file without notifying you)

Did you install new SW recently ?
