I'm playing around with my Venice 3200+, DFI Ultra-D, and some cheap (2.5-3-3-6) Geil. The RAM's good at stock voltage up to at least 220 running 1:1 (CPUx10); I can run the CPU @ 250x10 with a 1:2 memory divider. I think "Cool, this is pretty good for stock voltages." (At least it seemed pretty good from what I've seen looking around: 2.6 on the RAM, 1.4 on the CPU, and Auto on the chipset.) I set the FSB to 250, the CPU to x10, and the RAM to a 5:6 divider, and Windows wouldn't start. 🙁 I ran Memtest for ~3.5 hours, 11 passes or something, with no errors, but Windows can't finish startup. If I set the multiplier to x8, it's fine, x9 doesn't work.
I'm gonna go try some more RAM and processor ratios now that I've asked for help. 😉
Oh, almost forgot. I've been careful about setting my HTT (or whatever it is) multiplier so the product's always less than 1000, so I'm pretty sure that's not doing anything. Especially since I can run the FSB up a good bit farther than I'm taking it right now (got into Windows @ 260 or 270 w/ a 1:2 mem divider and x10 CPU.)
So, what is this, and is there anything I can do besides feed more volts through something?
EDIT: So, some more testing. CPU multies of x9, x9.5, and x10 all go through the Windows boot-up but fail just as they reach the Welcome screen. x8.5 started up fine. I'm running it with a 220fsb, 1:1 ram, and x10 CPU multiplier now and Prime95 had an error after 8 minutes or something, so I expect I'll have to play with my speeds a little more, but I'm still confused about why Windows won't even start if Memtest86 can run for so long.😕
