Hi guys,
I ran into a problem recently today. I was running my Samsung 172x on a Radeon 9800pro in DVI mode for over a year with no problems. Earlier today, I got a MSI 6600GT and hooked that up.
I used the Videocard uninstallation faq by hardforums to do the job of uninstalling the 9800pro, which was:
The DVI input was working fine while it was auto-detecting the 6600GT.
However, shortly during the Nvidia driver install, it asked me for my Samsung 172X .inf settings. I tried windows\system32 and windows\system, they weren't in there, so I downloaded the latest off samsung's website and had it used that. When the monitor drivers weren't installed, I think I accidently had set the resolution to 1600x1200 (my LCD max is 1280x1024) because it was set on Plug and Play. I saw the windows screen, but I also saw some garbage and flickering on the screen. I set the resolution down to 1280x1024, and it worked fine.
Before I rebooted, I also installed the 172x setup and set it to DVI. I was noticing that in DVI display my mouse was erratic and system paused a bit during some time. I uninstalled the samsung auto-configuration programs (magic tune and natural color).
Then I rebooted, and I haven't been able to use my DVI input since on the 6600GT. Each time, it keeps coming up as a blank screen.
The cables are securely connected, and there is no damage to them.
I can only use the RGB now to get a display signal. If I try using the RGB to DVI connector, it still doesn't work.
I also put the 9800pro in another system, and tried connecting the DVI from the monitor. Same problem. The LED on the LCD keeps blinking as if the signal isn't detected.
Is my DVI input on the LCD dead??

*** For users switching from ATI to Nvidia.....or vise versa ***
1: Through "Add/Remove Programs" proceed to uninstall the Nvidia Display Driver if you're currently using an Nvidia product.....or uninstall the ATI Control Panal, Display Driver, and finally the Uninstaller itself if your current video card is a Radeon.
2: Boot up into safe mode and run Driver Cleaner. Select "ATI" or "Nvidia" from the drop down menu (whichever applies to your current hardware) and click on "Clean". Do the cleaning twice to make sure that everything is cleared out.
-- Selecting "Nvidia" if you have an nforce2 motherboard will not have any negative effects, they are seperate options. --
3: Shut down your computer and swap the cards, remembering to plug in the 4pin molex power connection if your new card requires one.
4: Turn on your computer and wait for windows to go through it's stupid auto detection of your hadware before continuing. Install your new drivers and restart your computer.
