Is my LCD damanged?

I don't know how to explain it, but i'll do my best.

I just got the 19" Viewsonic VX922, with the 2ms refresh rate.

The monitor is great. Very crisp and clear. Games like it.

However, I have noticed 'something' and I can't really tell what it is.

From time to time, if im looking at the center of the screen, like reading a web page, then quickly glance up to the upper left if I was to hit the 'back' button on Firefox, just at that second, it almost looks a little 'grainy' for about 1-2 seconds, then it seems to go away.

I am not sure if it is the way i'm viewing the monitor, if it is the light, or something, but it definitely catches my eye. I don't see that happening anywhere else on the monitor.

Can the monitor be damaged? Or, are my eyes really sensitive (i do see 20/10...maybe it's me?)

Thx

That's just how lcds are. I notice it too. It's like, if I'm looking at the picture on the screen everything looks great but if I look at the screen directly everything looks grainy. I guess this is just the "matte" finish because this is the third lcd I have owned and I've noticed the same thing on all of them(SyncMaster 704B, Viewsonic VA1912wb, and LG L2000C is what I'm using now).

I've noticed the lcds with the special glossy coating don't seem to have this that's why I think it's just the type of finish on the screen. Don't worry about it, it's normal.

dithering is what you get on a 6 bit panel which is what you have. It can't produce the true-to-life 16.7 million colors but only 16.2 million so it emulates, or dithers, to get the last 0.5 million colors. Some LCDs show it badly, others like the VX922 that you have are very good at it but it won't be perfect.

I have the Viewsonic VX2025wm which is a 8-bit panel which is capable of truely producing the 16.7 million colors and I don't get anything like that, however 8-bit panels can't be quite as fast as a 6-bit panel.

Hope this helps 🙂
