Its a Sony PCG-Z505 (prolly a coupla years old) but Ive only had it for 4 months, I bought it secondhand off a friend. Warranty's probably long gone, but now when I try to turn it on, absolutely nothing turns on. Is it a paperweight now at this point?

Battery in and charged? Is it plugged in? Try to wiggle the power plug a bit, there may be a bad connection in there.

yea, battery was at 99% at the time, and I also tried plugging the laptop in to the power plug. Is it possible that unplugging the usb mouse caused a short or something? The laptop was running at the time I did that

No, I hot-swap USB stuff all the time on my laptop without problems. I'm stumped :(.

Probably a short circuit or a power supply failure. Does any light turn on, on the notebook when plugged in?

take out the battery and put it back in. check to see if there is a battery indicator on the actual battery itself. see if any LEDs light up. if not, bad battery. if there is, check to see if the contacts are dirty. clean them. if it still doesn't work, then check to see if the power button is actually touching the physical button underneath the plastic button. let us know :)

Outta nowhere, my sister slides the power switch and the laptop turns on. It worked all day yesterday and for about an hour today, but just 5 minutes ago while I was tinkering with the network settings, it just turned off. Could it be an overheating issue? Yesterday the laptop was seriously running hot, so much so that it was too hot to touch in certain spots.

EDIT: It's not starting up again...:(
