Is my laptop video card hosed?

I've got an older Dell Inspiron 3000 that has worked great for me for several years. In the past few days, the video has gone berzerk. It has the ATI Mobility (M4) 2MB video card in it.

Now, all of my blacks appear as red. Also, when I login to Windows XP, the screen is mostly red, instead of mostly blue. It looks to me like the video card has just gone out, but I'm hoping someone can tell me for sure.

I'd hook it up to an external monitor. If the problems appear on the external monitor, then it's probably the video card, if the problem clears up then it's probably the laptop display.
