hey guys, ive had this laptop for a little under a year now. its a Fujitsu Lifebook A6110. all of a sudden lately, ive been hearing this strange sound coming from the back where the vents are. it sort of sounds like a fan sputtering.

i never noticed it before. i recently installed windows xp (got rid of vista) about 2 months ago, maybe less. this problem has been apparent for probably about 2 weeks now. not sure if this may have cause anything, but i started using a wireless mini mouse with usb about 3-4 days before i noticed the issue.

im not really sure what other information i should add here. the laptop is under a year old, but i havent looked into the fujitsu warranty or replacement policies yet, should probably check those out.

what do you guys think?

edit:

i hear the sound a few times per minute, but sometimes doesnt happen for a few minutes to an hour or so, but i just might not be noticing it. i do use my laptop quite a bit, so it does get pretty warm. i also do a play a game from time to time, not too often. it has also been left powered on overnight once in a while.

Hi CheerUpEmoKid,

Dust and heat will make a laptop cooling fan sound louder than
it did when you first bought the laptop?

If you have had your laptop for a few years or in dusty environments a lot, it might need to be open up and have the dust cleaned out. Dust will accumulate inside of your laptop case after a period of time. Case and CPU fans will get so dusty that they will either slow down or stop working completely.

I havent had my laptop for too long (10-11 months maybe). It's not a constant noise, it seems that it comes in and out, more often when doing power intensive tasks. I dont really want to open it up and start spraying compressed air in there cause im not sure if it will void any warranty i might have by opening it up.

Does anyone know if that would void a warranty? To be honest, I'm not even sure if I have a warranty :p

Yes it will void the warranty if they can tell somehow ;) . If it's under warranty, get them to fix it for you...it's their job! If it's not under warranty, go get the hardware manual if possible and have at it.

edit: link to fujitsu based on model A6110

That's the link, I couldn't find a hardware manual. Use their page to see if it's covered. If it is, contact their support for repair. If it's not, contact their support to see if they can send you the hardware manual. Hope this helps.
