Is my Intellimouse Optical dying?

Sometimes, my mouse would freeze and I'd notice the Intellieye is not even turned on. Then it would unfreeze when the Intellieye is shining again. Is this an indication of my mouse at the end of its short life?

Did you try changing the surface? or have you been working since a long time on that surface without any problems until recently?

Mine died the same way... I'm using a Logitech wireless optical setup now. If that dies, its back to balls and wires for me

Mine is sometimes slowing down and sometimes freezing. This was driving me nuts when it was on the ps2 port and I thought my mobo was dying -- I switched to using the USB port and I can now unplug and replug to wake it or speed it up.

Ol' mousey's getting old and senile I guess, so off to the glue factory withr him. I've heard MS is good about honoring the lifetime warranty though.

Been using the same surface ever since.

Bahh...I love this mouse (well, up until now). How long will the RMA process take from the moment I call to receiving a new mouse. And if I receive a new one, will I get the newer, more reliable version of the Optical, whatever it is (what I meant is I don't know if they have a newer version...my current mouse was the improvement on the first generation Optical: "33% faster").

Sounds like its dead to me. RMA with microsoft is painless. They just ask you for a number on the bottom of your mouse, and they send you out the newest version of that mouse in retail box and all. You dont even have to send your old one back to them.

Yup. It's got a bad cable. That's exactly how mine died too. MS will replace it for free (they were nice and sent me 2 :D )

I think you're right because when I move my mouse in a way that the cable that's going into the mouse is tugged, the mouse would temporarily "die." Then I'd jiggle the mouse again and it comes back. Are the new Opticals like this too over time? Hope not :(

My mouse never had a problem, My brother has the same mouse, we both had it for about 1.5 years IIRC.

I love my mouse. :D

Its getting a bit dirty though.

I had this dying one for about 2 years. You're not out of the blue yet :( So when your mouse dies, keep the RMA number posted by Rhombuss handy.

Dammit! Just called RMA and they said their warehouse is out of stock. 3-4 weeks is the estimated time my mouse is going to arrive :disgust:
