Here are my specs for starters to some up any odds and ends. HP pavillion laptop, dual core amd turion, gig of ram, go 6150gpu , and the problem child 120gig hdd WDC. Today after restarting my computer it started running the check disk feature saying it was searching for consistency problems. Well it gets to 6% and just sits there for a half an hour, I try turning it off and bypassing it, but when it says to press a key to cancel it no matter what key I press it just goes along regardless right back into the check disk. I have let it run for hours and it doesn't get any further then 6%. I have been able to bypaass it a couple of times by going into the bios and exitting back out, but this is starting to get annoying. So any help would be lovely.

it does sound like a possible drive failure, if its a wdc you can download and burn there digital lifegaurd tools and burn it to a cd and see if it comes up with any errors.
another thing you can try is boot to safe mode and see if it will allow it to go past the 6% mark
