Is my HDD kaputz?

I am upgrading an old pc and win2k is telling me that c is corrupt and cannot be repaired. Is it smoked or is there a way to format this. I don't have a good reason to buy a new HDD, its for the folks who don't need the space. It also won't let me repartition either. That's on another thread though.
 
what brand and model is the HDD?

go to the manufacturers site and you should be able to dowload diagnostic tools that will tell you whether the disk is about to fail (or has failed)
