when i put in this harddrive, i cannot go into windows. The error msg is IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.

when i take out the harddrive, everything works.

HMMMM.....anyone can help?

probably your o/s is corrupt/has some bad files or memory. Probably not the hard drive, but you can use DFT(drive fitness test by hitachi) to find out.

*edit* how does everything work when you take your hard drive out, is this not the boot drive.

i'm running maxtor's drivemax crap and it's scanning, so far a quick scan no error....full scan no error.... burning in drive now.....and it is still not working

anyone else hlep? i really don't want to reformat

Tried sticking it in anyone else's machine? Any other channel you can try it on even as a slave to a cd drive? Try other random things like changing the data cable, if you have a spare. I once had a buggered data cable, it was a brand new one too.

Was it his boot drive and did it fail to access then or has it always just been used as an extra drive?

Another option might be if you've got an external usb2/firewire hd enclosure would be to whack it into that.

I'm guessing you already know this but have you set the jumpers correctly i.e. set as slave if it's a slave to your boot drive?

Also do you a spare raid or plain ide controller to connect it to to see if it's an ide controller issue?

the drive failed in both machines, can't be an IDE controller issue

the drive is a boot drive on my frien'ds comp and now a master drive on my ide (sata boot)

i do not hav external inclosuer

as a boot drive AND just a random drive on the IDE, both failed

the drive worked perfectly before and all of a sudden it failed....that's the point.
