is my hard drive a goner?

ms 6163pro
256 pc133 gen ram
ati 8 mb video
sound blaster 16
maxtor 5400 8 g

i get this meesage sfter my puter does the verifying DMI pool data..

it says "stage1" then doesnt do anyting anymore...

i know its the hard drive...ive done all i could..checked cables got new ones...put into another computer...formatted..fdisked...nothing...anyone else have this prob?

Have you run Maxtor's diagnostic software on it? Go to Maxtor's site and do a search for PowerMax.exe.
