I am getting horizontal anomolies. Kind of like cetain lines of video across the screen that jigger. So if you look at the vertical right or left edge of a full screen window, the edge line is not straight and you can see indents and jumping. If I degaus, the probel goes away for a short period and then returns. I am using a BNC cable and my Sony monitor has dual inputs for BNC and Dsub. I recently was working on a friends rig and plugged it into the Dsub and there was not problem, which leads me to think that it is not the monitor. Could it be the BNC cable? The video card? I did have the GF3 oc'd, but have recently turned it to default. I am using the latest official nvidia dets. Refresh is at 100 at 1152x864.

What do you think?

If it was the vid card, then I doubt degaussing would have helped. Try a new cable.

Tested the cable and it is fine. Jeesh, I hope it is not the monitor going. I bought the monitor when I bought my second Voodoo II to sli, so I would have to say I am over the 3-year warranty:)

what happens if you knock the refresh down to 85Hz or so. (or lower the resolution)

Degauss affecting performance certainly seems to point to the monitor.

OK, I was a little quick on the degauss, it does it right after, just that the viewable area is smaller, so it was harder to notice. I also noticed similar anonlies during the boot screens. Wavy text when recognizing hard drives. I am pretty confident it is the video card and I think it is my own fault. I recently turned it up to 235/245 just for kicks to see what 3Mark returned (10K) and I never turned it back down to where I have always run it - 225/525.

Time for a new video card and I need some help. I am just not the same gamer I used to be and I don't need a 9700, NV30 or ti4600, but I still want a decent card, I need some help from you fellas as I have been out of it for a while. I'll post a new thread.

LarryJoe, If you are not a die hard gamer, the best bang for your buck card right now may be one of the GF4 ti 4200 cards or Radeon 9500 (oem or pro) depending on your budget. If you are really strapped look for a Radeon 8500LE w/ 128megs of ram.

how does the 8500LE perform?

I've also been looking at the video card market right now, and it is overwhelming. I still run my plain jane Elsa Gladia Geforce 3.

I've noticed you can get the 8500LE or the 9000 Pro for right at $100 and under... are these good deals??

How do they perform in relation to my Geforce 3, running along side a P4 Northwood 2.0 Ghz ??

It would only be a mild upgrade from a GF3. I have a GF3 Ti 200 running at 200/450. I would not consider upgrading to anything less than a 9500Pro.
