Is my friend's transmission blown? Going from R to D quick

Hey guys, my friend was shifted from reverse to drive really quick, doing a U turn. Now when he presses gas after a few seconds the car jumps and then starts to run. the engine acts swervy and choppy, but still drivable. Any ideas on what to do? Thanks.

I don't fully understand what you are describing, but check for broken/loose engine mounts.

Edit;

I understand now 🙂

He most likely has a broken Rzappa joint (Driveshaft)

WTH was the dumbass doing in reverse? I don't know about you, but a normal U-turn is done in the forward direction.

I think it's pretty clear he was trying to do something he saw on TV 🙂

did he shift it into reverse while the car was still moving? seen that cause problems many a time. almost blew up an old 92 cavalier that way. totally screwed it up.

I can see situations where you would have to do it in reverse, but putting it into drive while moving at a significant rate of speed backwards was definately a dumbass move.

Although, my dad does it all the time in his Chevy 3/4ton pickup. 😛

how fast backward for he going when he put it on drive, also if i am understanding what wanted to do correctly then didn't he slam on a break at some point or put on e brake to spin the car before putting it in drive?

What, he was trying to reverse 180? Fool. That's hard enough in a stickshift. Maybe if you hit neutral before starting the swing out and drop into drive at about 2500 you'd have it look somewhat "cool". 😛

He could of screwed up anything on that drive train. I remember doing that on a golf cart and I completely chewed up the gears.

Not smart as all. Make sure he learns how to drive before he does a stunt like that again.
