Is my dvd drive dead?

I have a toshiba 1102, it worked fine a few days ago. Whenever I put a disc in it dosent auto play, and when I try to open it from "my computer" it says to insert a disc when there is a disc in it. I dont have any dvds to try out on it but all music cds and software cds arent recognized. Any ideas how to fix it or is it just dead?
 
are you saying normal data and audio cd's are or arent recognized, as for the dvd's, reload your aspi layer, what os do you have, basically, get ur os disk out and replace the files, or search for a program called ForceAspi 1.7, do a search for "reloading aspi" or something similar should come up with a step by step guide for re-installing your aspi layer .. good luck ..
