Is my DVD/CD-ROM drive unfixable?

My DVD/CD-ROM burner combo drive isn't detecting any discs, and I'm unable to boot from the disc drive (it tries to, but just skips it and goes straight to the hard drive). I checked the connections and everything looks good internally, plus the disc tray still ejects.

I had originally thought that maybe some malware was affecting the ability to recognize media, but since I can't even boot from the disc I'm thinking it may be something wrong with the hardware. However, I'm by no means an expert, which is why I'm posting here 🙂

Do y'all think I should just buy a new drive?

No, I think you should dismantle it and spend a goodly portion of your day trying to "fix it".

C'mon dude - what did you think we were going to say? A new DVD burner can be had for as little as $18-$22. Did you really think it was feasible or worth your time to "fix" that buggy drive?
