Is my Duron depressed?

I have a 650 Duron, and I at one time had it pretty stable at 107x8=856. I think the voltage was 1.70.
Anyway, I kept trying to go higher ...at one point getting it to 880, and then pulling back from using the FSB option to trying to get 850 with multiplier only (8.5x100)
I have had to drop back to 800(8x100)as trying to run it higher results in lockups while in use, and have to shut all down to get it to reboot.
Question ....can they get too warm, confused ..or whatever..that seems to make them regress to lower speeds?
Anyone seen simular results?

Did you increase the voltage? Connect the L7s and increase the voltage to 1.85v, you'll notice that you can reach higher speeds.

This one is unlocked. I may wait till I get some Artic Silver before I make the leap to 1.85.
I guess I am being a bit too cautious since I have an unlocked unit, and don't want to burn it up.

Increasing the voltage often increases stability. However cooling is a huge factor and hardly a risk when you have efficient cooling. If your running the retail fan, your doing the right precaution.

Do you have to unlock the voltage bridges???
I have been (?) adjusting through BIOS with results...
