Is my dryer going to explode?

Hello,

I accidently left a pen in my pants and it exploded in the dryer. There was ink all over the dryer and I couldn't get it out, so I bought some goof off with Acetone and Methanol. I rubbed it on the spots and got all of it off. The goof off evaporates extremely fast, but I don't know if any alcohol residue remains. Will my dryer catch fire or explode if I run it? Thanks

Leave your dryer door open for a little while. It will evaporate and there will be no issues.

AFTER you've let it vent with the door open for a while, set the Temperature dial to NO Heat, then turn it on. That will run the motor and fan, but no heat from the element.

Usually if you can't smell the acetone or methanol badly, there is not enough to be a fire hazard. But that depends, I guess, on how good your nose it!

I throw stuff in the oven in my lab drenched in acetone and methanol. No fires yet....well, not from doing that, at least :D

Even if there some smell in the drum, the air that goes over the elements is from the outside of the drum. It would push the fumes out of the vent pipe, not over the elements. Now if there was a strong vapor in the room.....well...kaboom.

It would take a high concentration to ignite even with the element on because with adequate airflow those nichrome elements remain far below the ignition point of the vapors. A spark will do it and the centrifugal switch that disengages the start winding on the drum motor just will do that! Glub! Even if it did ignite it would be a quick puff.

By the time you posted your message I'm sure the levels were far below confined space flash fire danger criteria. ;)
