Is my d@mn burner a lite-on?

I have checked all the god d@mn lite-on threads and was left very confused.

It is a pacific digital 48x/12x/48x

Model #: CDR-W548

SN: 221231000748 (12 digits total)

It does not say LTR anywhere on the box.

according to this, it is a lite-on, but it makes no mention of "LTR" anywhere on the drive itself or the box.

When I go to the pacific digital website to download firmware, it directs me to liteon website.

People have reported receiving this drive with a liteon sticker on the drive, but mine has a pacific digital sticker with "CDR-5248".

according to this, it mentions CDR-5W32 and CDR-5W40 under Liteon, but no CDR-5W48. Since Nero 5.5 was included with my drive, pacific digital is not listed on the supported burners.

It also supports "smart burn" and when typed into a search engine, the top matches are "lite on".

Being the skeptical person i am, I basically need to see the words "lite-on" on my burner to confirm it, otherwise I will return it.

And also, is there any software that will let me check the actual brand of my burner?

Thanks : )

What is the drive listed as Windows Device Manager? I would check that to see what the drive really is. Many times the manufacturer (Pacific Digital) will put their own labels on the drive.

under manufactuer, it lists "standard cd-rom drives". I believe that is the default when the manufactuer is unknown.

finally a reply!

Yes it looks like a liteon too by the faceplates, but i want some literal evidence...such as the words LITE ON, appearing on my screen. Do you know of any software programs that will identify this burner for me? I already tried sandra, bios, and device manager.

I had one of those drives and ended up selling it. I think it is Liteon hardware (looks identicle) with different firmware. Someone in the deals forums successfully flashed this drive to a full Liteon drive btw.
