Is my cpu too hot?? I'm scared :(

It's a 3200+ Winchester, it's not overclocked at all. I'm sorta scared because my dad has a Opteron 144 @ 2.7GHz, and he gets 30C idle, 32C load (on a zalman vf-700Cu). I'm using stock cooling BTW. Is it too hot??

nope, not at all. Usually you should get worried when your proc. is idling above 40C or at loads 60C. If you are very paranoid, bump up the RPM on your heatsink to allow further cooling.

ur dad's opteron must be running at a very very low voltage or the temp sensor is borked

2c swing in load on air isnt very plausible

that being said, ur temps are very normal. nothing to worry about.

Ok, either your making this up or you (or your dad) doesn't know what you are talking about.

How are you using a VF-700Cu (VIDEO CARD HS/F) on a processor!?

Second, have you ever seen the other million threads. If you are getting 30C then you must have a borked sensor. In an average room ~70F that is near perfect heat transfer. 35-36C is average for an A64 caliber processor.

Next, as chikgai said, the temperature delta between your idle and load temps is FAR too small.

Before making accusations on what is said might it be better to verify that has the correct term applied to the hs? Sounds like he has a concerned and came here for help and for the most part he was given sound advise.

General rule of thumb, as stated in previous responses, low 30's idle and high 40's to 50ish aren't bad everything considered. If your dads temps still hold true from all his indicators, I would suggest that he look into for if a cpu is under load you will attain a higher degree of temp than 2 degrees C.

I agree, your temps must be wrong. 33-38c idle is normal and as long as the load doesn't hit 60c you are fine...although I don't like my load to pass 55c.
