Is my CPU temp too high? *Fixed with a minor mod*

50c idle
60c stress test full load

system spec is below.. hmm...

[update]
On the exhaust fan, the holes are constricting about 60% of airflow, so using the set of pliers, I made a circular cut so the opening is completely unrestricted. I also took out two PCI slot covers. Those slits + nice airflow = 43-45 idle, 53 load.

A whopping 8 degree difference! The heatsink is fine and works beautifully, it's just that the case was too damn suffocating.

Are you using stock HSF?

AMD cpus generally OC higher with better cooling...

60C is still under the safe limit, I think, but it is rather high...

Heatsink is in the sig. I don't think temp is the prob with my OC. It's just unstable despite very cool temp (40-45c with case open).

I once had a laptop that ran at 90C+ almost constantly for 3 years. :)

But yeah I've heard 50 and under is ideal. Try a thinner layer of thermal paste?

Well, it might be a bit of a PITA, but you could try reseating the heatsink.

And getting 40-45C with the case open... kinda sounds like a possible airflow problem with the case.

Laptop CPU's are generally designed with that in mind, I think.

They are. It's just not feasible putting a tower heatsink in a laptop. So, they design mobile cpus to put out less heat (lower TDP), but they still end up operating at high temperatures because of the small heatsinks used in laptops.

Those load seems fine to me. I wish I could get 60c under load on my i7 860.

The idle seems a tad high though. Are you ambient temperatures high? Do you have the fan speed set to run as quiet as possible?

I think the maximum temperature before Phenom II's start throttling is 70c. As long as you're below that, you should be fine.

What stress test is this btw?
