Is my computer running slowly?

Just installed the SnapScan drivers and software to my laptop and it took 30 mins. Sure seem slow to me. No viruses show up with Microsoft Security Essentials. So, the main question is, is there a nice diagnostic system that will check the speed of everything and let you know if it is around normal times?

Was it installing dependencies and bloated software, like software to do OCR and help organize scanned documents? Installing .NETs (some software needs more than the client profile), Visual C++ runtimes, database software, etc., can take a long time, especially if it flushes your drive's caches every few files, and verifies them. The time taken is almost entirely dependent on disk performance.
