Is my computer infected with the evil Gamespy Arcade, or...

I should start out by saying that I have a fresh format and install on my current machine and don't use any file sharing software.
So last night while I was playing BF2 I found that my game was going rather slowly. I bopped out, shut down and rebooted. I checked the temps all seemed ok. I went back on line, new server, same thing. I bopped out again and this time did a netstat and found all sorts of ports being used to all sorts of IPs. I did a geographic look up on the IPs and found most of them pointing to Oklahoma. I tried installing Mcaffee from an online install but it keeps crapping out, as if there's a virus... great I'm thinking. So I use Norton's online virus scanner and it comes up with no viruses found, but 5 places where it says that adware has installed itself and all of them are listed as Gamespy. Is Gamespy now in the business of being adware? When did this happen?

Here's what I got:

C:\Program Files\GameSpy Arcade\Aphex.exe is infected with Adware.GameSpyArcade

C:\Program Files\GameSpy Arcade\fpupdate.exe is infected with Adware.GameSpyArcade

C:\Program Files\GameSpy Arcade\GSAPak.exe is infected with Adware.GameSpyArcade

C:\Program Files\GameSpy Arcade\RptCrash.exe is infected with Adware.GameSpyArcade

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\Redist\ArcadeInstallBATTLEFIELD2_20.EXE is infected with Adware.GameSpyArcade

So my question is would this cause a netstat to produce all sorts of IPs like that (15 or 20 at a time) Would it stop me from being able to install McAffee (keep in mind that this is a brand new image I have installed on this machine so it 'should be' clean enough for an install of McAffee.

Is it possible that there is a virus in here that is simply not showing up on the virus scan that is stopping McAffee from installing?

Thoughts?

Technically this website is adware, AIM is adware... lots of legit things are adware. Just uninstall the arcade, it's worthless anyway.

Hmm. Not sure if it would cause those things, but have you tried a scan with Ad-Aware or your choice of adware / malware / junk scanner?

I've never been a big fan of the Gamespy software... I still have my lifetime subscription to Kali :D and I have also tried another game browser called All Seeing Eye, which even has a good free version, I believe. check it out

DUDE... i had fits trying to find mine. i gave up searching for it. have you visited the site to use the email form yet? They have a form where you can submit the email address you used to sign up and they will send you the codes there.

I finally found a printout of my old codes and they work magnificently. I've been a member since 1996! Best $20 I ever spent - I hope it works forever.

if I uninstall gamespy arcade will I still be able to use the Battlefield 2 game browser? I thought it shared components no?

edit: also why is Norton anti virus a third the cost of McAffee, I thought they provided the same protection...
