I have a Compaq FP700 (flat - LCD) monitor that looks spectacular and the image is rock stable. I love it! So what's the problem? It is being driven from a Compaq Presario 5220 AMD6-K2-380 with ATI Rage PRO 4mg chipset (and therefore the associated 20 pin DFP port) on the motherboard. I want to upgrade to a faster computer but cannot find a graphics card with DFP output for the monitor. I'm stuck with getting a new monitor or sticking with the mediocre computer.
Compaq must have sold thousands of these monitors (and the FP720). Surely there are many others with this problem. If so, I'd like to hear from you - if i get a solution I'll tell you about it. . .
I'd appreciate suggestions from anyone who has tangled with this problem with any success.
Please don't bother to bash Compaq for proprietary products in response to this post - that's already been done, so what's the sense. I am familiar with the several standards DFP, DVI-D, DVI-I, D&P, and ports associated with each. I actually need a 20 pin DFP solution, via card or crossover sub, 'cause that's what my monitor has on it.
