I am wondering if my video card is running too hot atm. My card currently is Evga GTX275 and when I am running ffiv or battlefield 3 alpha it can approach 105 degree if I have left the fan control at auto and it spin up at 100% for one second once it approach 105 degree then it drop back down to 40%. The reaching is based upon EVGA precision.

Is the behavior normal? If not, is it a ground to request rma?

105'c is pretty close to the limits. What card did you say you are using? I don't recall a 275.. did you mean 285? If that is the case then yes that is rather odd. My 280 never passes 86'C under the worst conditions.

Try creating a manual fan profile in EVGA precision options and set the fan to a higher speed. For testing i suggest something like set it to 60% @ 60', 80% @ 80, 100% @ 90, or just try setting it flat out to 100% and see how it behaves.

The GTX 275 was indeed a card. It was the direct competitor to the HD 4890 series.

I used a GTX275 EVGA the FTW edition, on par with a 285 stock. So, the temps are way too high. Clean your card from dust with an air spray, blow from behind through the grills and try to clean the radiator. Reseat the card and setup a custom fan profile with MSI afterburner. You should have 45-48 idle 40% fan speed and up to 75-80C on full load fan at 90-100%

I have the same card. At load it sits right at 90 degrees for me. Yours does seem to be hot. Not sure about the weird fan behavior.

105 degrees is near the limit for your card.. I suggest cleaning your card and apply a new layer of thermal paste, use gelid extreme :)

this was the case for my previous 4890, the card runs so hot at 90c when before it only runs at 74 to 76... I cleaned the card, opened it up and applied a new thermal paste.. I reconditioned it before I sold it to my friend...

increasing your fan speed may help, observe temps while playing or use MSI Kombustor...
