I haven't burned a CD since the spring. I can't remember exactly but back then I was having some difficulties and my burner was making coasters. Well, I'm trying to burn a CD image. I've tried Nero and CDRWIN and both always crap out at 27% of the process. I don't think the image is bad, but I'm getting some sort of write error.

I noticed my burner is in PIO Mode 4. No matter what I try (even if I force it into DMA mode) it won't go. I'm using Win2k SP2 and have the newest busmasters. I tried downgrading to the 3.11 busmasters and I got the burner into DMA mode with IDETool, but then the burner programs wouldn't work at all. Could this be a DMA issue? I've heard of a lot of people with my motherboard (Asus CUV4X) having problems getting CD-ROMs and CD burners working in DMA mode with Windows 2000.

Or is this just a burner going bad? I really don't want to have to re-install Windows but it looks I might. I used to run the burner in DMA mode all the time no problem.

Nevermind. I downgraded the firmware and everything seems fine now
